I think he was covering his ass: if she had named names, then they might have been sued for providing a platform for libel. I think he should have allowed her to speak anyway - she was the valedictorian and smart enough not to do that. And if they were worried about ruining a "beautiful experience", cutting the mike guaranteed that.

Yes, it was an ostentatious way of saying "We favor covering up sexual abuse within our organization and further victimizing the victims." If Stirrat felt backed into a corner out of legal CYA concerns, that shows Seitz had thought through her tactics and handed the school a dilemma: sit and listen to her point or pull the plug and prove it.
